Welcome to the website of the Tampa Bay House Rabbit Society.
The current economy is presenting challenges in all forms and the result is an enormous amount of "dump" calls. These are calls from people who cannot or will not take care of their rabbits. We cannot keep up with the volume of calls and from this point forward, "dump" calls will not be returned. Instead, there is a form on the Adoption & Rescue page to get rabbits listed on Petfinder.
The proverbial "straw that broke the camel's back" came from a woman who had bought a rabbit for her daughter as a requirement for a New Port Richey animal husbandry class without any thought as to what would happen to the rabbit after the class. In this situation, the rabbit is as disposable as a textbook at the end of the semester.
We do not take rabbits from the public under any circumstances. Our rescue space is reserved for shelter rabbits about to be euthanized. Due to the economy, we have no space for rescues.
We refer all medical calls to veterinarians and wildlife rehabbers. More information can be found on the Veterinary Care page.
