Adoption and Rescue

The House Rabbit Society requires that all adopters:

House their rabbits indoors

Provide high quality pellets, timothy hay, veggies, and fresh water

Allow their rabbit to have daily exercise in a bunny-proofed home

Have their rabbits checked annually by a HRS-approved vet

Own their own home or reside in a "pet friendly" apartment

Be responsible adults with stable employment

Be prepared for an 8 -12 year commitment

We keep a partal list of adoptable rabbits on our Petfinder site.  Click below:

TBHRS does not take rabbits from the public.  Here are some tips on how to find a good home for your rabbit.

Here are some common reasons why people "dump" their rabbits.  If you are offended by this list then you probably are not a good match with a rabbit or any other pet:

  1. Marriage/Divorce
  2. Pregnancy/new baby
  3. Lost job
  4. Moving
  5. Kids got tired of rabbit
  6. Too much work
  7. We let our rabbits breed and now we have too many
  8. Too many other pets
  9. Rabbit suddenly needs expensive veterinary treatment
  10. Allergic (most common excuse given but the real excuse is typically numbers 1-9).

Rabbits are not meant to be:

Classroom Pets

"Starter" pets or pets for young children
